What does the future hold for Poole Pottery? Do you think it will carry on in Poole? What do you think?

It does now seem that all production of Poole Pottery has moved away from Poole. This does seem a tragedy to me. I have been dealing in Poole Pottery discontinued ranges for about twenty years now and one of the abiding memories that I will always carry, is the immense heritage that Poole Pottery has provided in the Poole area. I remember an incident at Cottees (the auction house at Wareham) a few years ago, when I exhibited at their Poole Pottery Fair. An elderly lady came up to my stand and picked up a traditional vase. She turned it upside down, and it was obvious that she already knew what she was going to see. She said to me "Those are my initials. I painted that pot". No sooner were the words out of her mouth, than she was tapped on the shoulder by an elderly gentleman. "You might have decorated it, but it was me who threw the pot". They had both retired from the pottery many years before and had not seen each other for many years. They both had tears in their eyes, and so did I, and most of the other people gathered around my stand. I don't suppose that that will happen in the future. What a shame! Good luck to the new owners of Poole Pottery, whether they be in Poole or Stoke, but it will never have the same evocative character unless they find a way to move the production back to Poole. Looking round the poole shop the other week I felt that things are really starting to move in the right direction ;D Give it a couple more years and I think Poole Pottery will be back up with all the big names. Looking at things just business wise making dinner sets here in the UK was always going to be a very hard task with production costs being so cheap in China. I think they should have cut down on the dinner sets years ago, and really pushed the Studio and collectors side of things more Maybe thats what we are now seeing happen. Good to see them making a little more use of online sales. I offered about seven years back to work for them for FREE to build up the online sales side for them but the people in charge at the time were not interested.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poole_PotteryOn 15 December 2006, it was announced that the shop would close, due to non-payment of debts mounting up since the new owners took over in August. The company, including the factory, went into administration on 20 December 2006, owing £1 million to over 300 creditors. Poole Pottery came out of administration on 10 February 2007 and is now under the control of Lifestyle Group Ltd, which also own Royal Stafford Pottery. The pottery shop remains open on Poole Quay, selling Poole pottery and the Lifestyle Range of products. There is also a studio on site, where some design work is still done by Jane Brewer and Nicky Massarella. The main Poole Pottery factory is now at the Royal Overhouse Manufactory (sharing with Royal Stafford) in Burslem, Stoke on Trent where production is now carried out following the closure of the Poole factory.
